LifeSeasons
LifeSeasons Energy - Caffeine-Free Adaptogen Support for Steady Focus and Stamina (60 Capsules)
A cacao and adaptogen blend built for steady output, not a jolt. No caffeine to plan a crash around, though it isn't entirely stimulant-free either. Details below.
- Caffeine-free, honestly labeled. The green tea extract here is capped at trace caffeine (under 1 mg per serving), so this can help support energy without the coffee-style spike and crash.
- A real adaptogen trio, not a garnish. Rhodiola, eleuthero, and schisandra sit together in one formula, the same combination researchers have studied for stress resilience and fatigue resistance since the mid-20th century.
- Focus without the wired feeling. L-theanine and holy basil are both included at doses meant to smooth the mind out, not sharpen it into a jitter.
- Fully quantified, ingredient by ingredient. All eight actives are listed at an exact mg and, where relevant, an exact standardization percentage. Nothing sits behind a blend name.
- Simple, vegetarian capsule. Two inactive ingredients only, hypromellose and rice bran, no artificial preservatives.
- Third-party lab tested. Verified independently for purity and potency rather than taken on the brand's word alone.

Most products called “energy” on a supplement shelf just mean more caffeine, dressed up differently. This one takes a different route: cacao seed extract and isolated theobromine for a gentler, longer lift, layered with a genuine adaptogen trio (rhodiola, eleuthero, schisandra) plus holy basil and L-theanine for the stress and focus side. We carry it as the option for people who like what caffeine does but not what it does to them by 3pm, or who simply want to keep their evening free of it entirely.
One thing worth saying plainly, because the label leans on “caffeine-free” pretty hard: this is not the same as stimulant-free. Theobromine, the compound this formula is built around, is a milder relative of caffeine from the same chemical family, and it does have some stimulant activity of its own, just slower and gentler than caffeine’s. If you’re avoiding stimulants entirely rather than avoiding caffeine specifically, that distinction matters and we’d rather you know it going in.
The other honest note is on dosing. This is a broad, multi-ingredient formula, and every adaptogen in it sits toward the lower end of what’s used in the standalone clinical research on that ingredient. That’s normal for a blend built this way, and don’t expect the same felt effect you’d get from a full clinical dose of rhodiola or eleuthero on its own. Think steady and cumulative over a few weeks, not an immediate jolt. This supplmeent can be taken long term safely.

What is in the capsule, and why
Eight active ingredients across three rough categories: an energy source built on cacao and theobromine instead of caffeine, a calm-focus pairing, and a three-ingredient adaptogen base. Nothing here is a proprietary blend; every amount and standardization is printed on the panel.
The energy layer
- Andean Cacao (250 mg) and Theobromine (150 mg) are the two ingredients doing the actual lifting. Theobromine is a xanthine alkaloid, the same chemical family as caffeine, but it binds differently and more weakly to the receptors that drive caffeine's jitteriness. It also has a longer half-life than caffeine, which is part of why the effect is described as steadier rather than sharper. Cacao contributes the same compound naturally, along with flavanols that have their own antioxidant and mild cardiovascular research behind them.
- Green Tea Leaf Extract (150 mg) is standardized here to polyphenols and EGCG, not to caffeine. The caffeine content is capped at under 1 mg per serving, which is why we're comfortable calling this a caffeine-free product even though green tea naturally contains some. It's here for the polyphenol and antioxidant contribution, not as a stimulant.
The focus layer
- L-Theanine (125 mg) is the same amino acid used in our caffeine and theanine stacks, associated with increased alpha brain-wave activity and a calm-but-alert state. Here it's doing the same smoothing job, just against theobromine's milder stimulant profile instead of caffeine's sharper one.
- Holy Basil (75 mg, standardized to ursolic and oleanolic acids) is a traditional Ayurvedic adaptogen with a longer history of use for stress and mental clarity than hard clinical trial data. It's included for its calming, cortisol-modulating reputation rather than as the formula's evidence anchor.
The adaptogen layer
- Rhodiola Rosea (75 mg, standardized to rosavins and salidroside) has real human trial data behind it for reducing fatigue-related dips in mental performance under stress. Worth knowing: most of those trials used a considerably higher rosavin dose than the roughly 2 mg this serving provides, since a full clinical dose of rhodiola alone typically runs 200 to 600 mg of extract. Here it's one voice in a chorus, not the soloist.
- Eleuthero, also called Siberian Ginseng (75 mg, standardized to eleutherosides) has a long history of use in Soviet-era research on endurance and stress resistance in athletes and workers under sustained physical load. Modern evidence is more mixed than rhodiola's, but the traditional stamina angle is exactly why it's paired here with the physical-vitality side of the formula.
- Schisandra (75 mg, standardized to schisandrins) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine adaptogen used historically for endurance and liver support. Its modern clinical evidence base is the thinnest of the three adaptogens here, more preliminary than settled, so we'd file it as a reasonable traditional inclusion rather than a proven hero ingredient.
What the evidence does and does not say
Individually, rhodiola has the strongest human trial support of the three adaptogens, holy basil and L-theanine have decent supporting evidence for calm and stress, and eleuthero and schisandra lean more on traditional use and preliminary research than large modern trials.
Note: Although we have seen good results with this product, and some of our consultation clients and customers love this as well, as a combined formula at these doses, there is no clinical trial on this exact blend.
Who it tends to suit
- Anyone who gets jittery, anxious, or crashes hard on caffeine and wants a gentler alternative.
- People who want an energy product they can take later in the day without derailing sleep as badly as coffee would.
- Readers already interested in adaptogens who want a starting formula rather than five separate bottles.
Who it is probably not for
- Anyone avoiding all stimulants, not just caffeine specifically. Theobromine is milder, but it is not inert.
- Anyone expecting the immediate, noticeable lift of a caffeine product. This is built to be felt gradually, not instantly.
- Anyone who wants a full clinical dose of a single adaptogen like rhodiola. A dedicated standalone product will get you there faster than this blend will.
How To Use
Start with the standard 2-capsule serving and give it time. Unlike caffeine, adaptogens are not felt immediately. Most people describe the effect as building over 2 to 4 weeks of consistent daily use rather than an acute hit, so a single dose is not a fair test of what this product actually does.
Timing is more flexible than a caffeine product, but not unlimited. Because there's no meaningful caffeine here, this is easier to take in the afternoon than a coffee would be. That said, theobromine's half-life runs longer than caffeine's, so if you're sensitive to stimulants of any kind, morning or early afternoon is still the safer window for protecting sleep.
How to dose it
- 2 capsules once daily is the full studied serving on this label.
- Take with food if you find it easier on the stomach; none of the ingredients here require it.
How to stack it
- Want more of an acute lift alongside this? Our caffeine and theanine capsules layer on top cleanly, since the mechanisms differ (theobromine here, caffeine there).
- Building a broader stack? It sits fine next to a choline, magnesium, or omega-3 basic with no ingredient overlap.
- Don't stack this with a separate high-dose rhodiola, eleuthero, or schisandra product without accounting for the combined total; more of an adaptogen is not automatically better.
Consider cycling it. Many people who use adaptogens regularly take periodic breaks, commonly something like 8 weeks on and 1 to 2 weeks off, rather than year-round continuous use. The evidence on whether this is strictly necessary is not conclusive, but it's a reasonable, low-cost habit if you're using this long-term.
What to avoid
- Taking it very late in the day if you're sensitive to mild stimulants, given theobromine's longer half-life.
- Assuming "caffeine-free" means "stimulant-free." It doesn't, and the difference matters if you're avoiding stimulants for a medical reason.
Third Party Lab Testing
- Third-party tested for purity and potency, independent verification rather than an in-house claim.
- Fully disclosed doses on every ingredient, including standardization percentages, so the formula can be checked against the published research rather than taken on faith.
- Vegetarian, gluten-free, and free of artificial preservatives, with a simple two-ingredient capsule shell.
As with any supplement, the strongest form of proof is a batch-specific Certificate of Analysis tied to the lot number on your bottle. If verifying a specific batch matters to you, note the lot number and request the COA directly from the manufacturer.
